Almost 1 adult in 6 in the EU is considered obese – results from the Eurostat Survey

According to this Eurostat European Health Interview Survey, the proportion of obesity increases with age and decreases with education level.

Five countries have obesity rate among population aged 18 or over higher than 20% : Malta with 26%, Latvia with 21,3%, Hungary with 21.2%, Estonia with 20,4% and United Kingdom with 20,1%. At the opposite top of the scale, the lowest shares of obesity belong to Romania and Italy with respectively 9,4% and 10,7%.

France, with its 15,6% of obesity share, is ranked as 10th member of EU with the lowest rate of obesity among population aged 18 or over. Its obesity rate is placed just between Denmark and Luxembourg, with rates of 14,9% and 15.6% and just below the EU average obesity rate of 15.9%.
