Origin labelling of food: a boost for local economies and sustainable development

This study, conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), analyzes the economic impact of the geographical indication on nine different cases. : Colombian coffee, Darjeeling tea (India), Futog cabbage (Serbia), Kona coffee (United States), Manchego cheese (Spain), Penja pepper (Cameroon), saffron Taliouine (Morocco), Tête de Moine cheese (Switzerland) and Vale dos Vinhedos wine (Brazil). In all nine cases, the indication of origin has considerably increased the value added and the price of the final product.
