Superior Health Council of Belgium launches 12 dietary recommendations to preserve and improve the health of the population"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"l-subsection\"><div class=\"l-subsection-h\"><div class=\"l-subsection-hh g-html i-cf\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">The <strong>Superior Health Council\u00a0<span title=\"\">(SHC)<\/span><\/strong> is the body of Belgian public health scientific opinion with the aim of guaranteeing and improving the health of the population.<\/span> <span title=\"\">It is based on a multidisciplinary assessment of the current state of science to provide impartial and independent advice to guide policy makers and health professionals.<\/span> <span title=\"\">In consultation with the country&#8217;s competent authorities, the SHC has drawn up an opinion on the priorities for food choices that should contribute effectively to maintaining and promoting our health.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"\">The 12 recommendations proposed in this new opinion &#8220;Food Based Dietary Guidelines&#8221; (&#8220;FBDG&#8221;) concern the Belgian adult population.<\/span>\u00a0<span title=\"\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">But the great novelty of these recommendations is to have taken into account the importance of the relationship between food and health, and thus to have been able to prioritize the messages in order of importance, which leads to a new reference educational tool: l\u2019<strong>\u00c9pi Alimentaire<\/strong> (attached below).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6044\" src=\"https:\/\/science-nutrition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/epi-alimentaire-204x300.jpg\" alt=\"epi alimentaire\" width=\"204\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/science-nutrition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/epi-alimentaire-204x300.jpg 204w, https:\/\/science-nutrition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/epi-alimentaire-95x140.jpg 95w, https:\/\/science-nutrition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/epi-alimentaire.jpg 397w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The five first recommandations of the Epi alimentaire are about the intakes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">of whole grains<\/span><\/span> per day (125g minimum),<\/li>\n<li>of fruits per day (at least 2 fruits, or 250g of fruits),<\/li>\n<li>of vegetables per day (300g minimum),<\/li>\n<li>of <span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">legumes per week<\/span><\/span> (eat legumes every week) and replace meats by legumes,<\/li>\n<li>of <span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">nuts or seeds without salt or sweet coating<\/span><\/span> per day (between 15 and 25g),<\/li>\n<li>of salt products (<span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">Choose low salt products and avoid adding).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">The next seven are about the intakes:<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">of milk or dairy products a day (from 350 to 500 mL of milk),<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">of fish, shellfish or seafood a week (once or twice),<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">of red meat a week (300 g max),<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">of processed meats (cold meats, prepared meats, etc.) per week (maximum 30 g),<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">of <\/span><span title=\"\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">Drinks containing added sugars (sodas, fruit nectars, etc.), to limit as much as possible, water remaining the drink to favor,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">of c<span class=\"\" title=\"\">alcium, the intake must be sufficient (950 mg \/ day) via various natural sources including milk and its derivatives<\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">Of polyunsaturated fatty acids (including omega 3), the intake must be sufficient, favoring rapeseed, soybean and nut oils and consuming nuts and seeds<\/span><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span
