Within the framework of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/food\/system\/files\/2020-05\/f2f_action-plan_2020_strategy-info_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Farm to Fork Strategy<\/a>, the European Commission has identified a few aspects of the \u201cFood Information to Consumers\u201d (FIC) Regulation \u2013 Reg (EU) 1169\/2011 \u2013 whose modification or redefinition could benefit the quality of information to consumers, favoring healthy and sustainable choices.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In particular, the issues that were identified and that could potentially be concerned by a revision are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The identification of a harmonized standard for front-of-pack nutrition labelling (<a href=\"https:\/\/science-nutrition.com\/en\/2021\/12\/07\/projet-davis-de-lefsa-letiquetage-nutritionnel-face-emballages-profils-nutritionnels-ouvert-a-consultation-publique\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">read our news on the EFSA Opinion on its creation<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li>The rules on the mandatory indication of the geographical origin of certain ingredients or foods,<\/li>\n<li>The concepts related to the meaning and expression of the date of minimum durability and the \u201cuse by\u201d date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following an Inception Impact Assessment published by the European Commission on December 23, 2020, that underwent a <strong>feedback period<\/strong> that ended on February 4, 2021 and collected <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/law\/better-regulation\/have-your-say\/initiatives\/12748-Facilitating-healthier-food-choices-establishing-nutrient-profiles\/feedback_en?p_id=17646776\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">472 comments<\/a>, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/law\/better-regulation\/have-your-say\/initiatives\/12749-Food-labelling-revision-of-rules-on-information-provided-to-consumers_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public consultation period<\/a><\/strong> opened on December 13, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation, that already counts <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/law\/better-regulation\/have-your-say\/initiatives\/12749-Food-labelling-revision-of-rules-on-information-provided-to-consumers\/public-consultation_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">132 contributions<\/a>, is open to all citizens and stakeholders from the European Union and third countries until March 7, 2022; the final adoption of a regulatory text by the Commission is expected for the last quarter of the same year.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to participate to the consultation by visiting the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eusurvey\/runner\/FICRevisionSurvey2021?surveylanguage=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dedicated page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Orchidali can help you following unfolding regulatory issues.<\/em><\/strong>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The consultation has been open on December 13 and is accessible up to the beginning of March 2022.
