The EPPIC project catalyses \u20ac2.6 billion in economic activity and contributes significantly to reduce greenhouse gas emission in the country.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The initiative is centered on ensuring farmers achieve greater vegetable yields, grow plant-based on a large scale, and on consumers eating twice as many legumes as they currently do by 2030. To double legumes consumption in the Netherlands by 2030, agricultural players, food industry and consumers \u00a0will be involved. \u00a0For farmers, the plan is focused on the economic feasibility of growing crops high in proteins such as soybeans, peas, and lupins. The food and beverage industry is implicated in developing new protein alternatives based on legumes. Encouraging consumer uptake of legumes \u00a0is important for the success of the project. Research is needed\u00a0 for increasing knowledge on consumer perception. The project was put towards the House of representatives.<\/p>\n<p>The EPPIC project is expected to start in early 2024 and run for a period of six years.
