Novel Food regulation (EC) 2015/2283 comes into effect in January 2018
The regulation (EC) 2015/2283 replaces the previous one from 1997 and comes into effect in January 2018. It introduces a centralised assessment by the EFSA and authorisation procedure at EU level.
EFSA has published two guidance documents on the preparation and presentation of:
- The application for authorization of a Novel Food,
- The notification and application for authorization of traditional food from third countries,
to help ensure that these foods are safe before risk managers decide whether they can be marketed in Europe.
