Despite increased recognition of obesity as a chronic disease, this disease remains largely under-diagnosed and under-treated. The purpose of this study was to identify international perceptions, attitudes, behaviors and barriers to effective management of obesity in obese individuals and health professionals through an online survey in 11 countries. Participants were adults with obesity and health professionals primarily involved in direct care.

Our international dataset reveals the need to increase understanding of obesity and to improve education about its physiological basis and clinical management.
