EFSA has launched an open consultation on its draft scientific opinion on tolerable upper intake level for vitamin D for infants from 18 april to 23 may 2018. EFSA received 10 comments from 4 interested parties (academic research and industries). The comments received and how there were addressed by EFSA are summarized here.
The updated version of the Scientific Opinion on the update of the tolerable upper intake level (UL) for vitamin D for infants taking into account the comments received was discussed and adopted at the NDA Plenary meeting on 28 June 2018, and is published in the EFSA Journal (EFSA Journal 2018;16(8):536). Based on the overall evidence, the Panel kept the UL of 25 µg/day for infants aged up to 6 months and set a UL of 35 µg/day for infants 6-12 months (from infant formulae, food fortified and vitamin D supplemental intakes).
