The report published by EFSA in February 2020 paints a picture of the presence of pesticide residues in food on the European market and of any possible risk to the health of consumers. It also provides risk managers with important information on which to base their decisions regarding future control measures. A total of 91,015 samples were analyzed in 2018, 95.5% of which were within the legal limits. As part of its analysis of the results, EFSA also carried out a food risk assessment. This assessment suggests that the food products analyzed in 2018 are not likely to constitute a problem for the health of consumers. However, a number of recommendations are made to increase the efficiency of European control systems and thus continue to ensure a high level of consumer protection.
