In its scientific opinion published on May 2017, the EFSA concluded that follow-on formula with a protein content of at least 1.6 g/100 kcal from intact cow’s or goat’s milk protein, otherwise complying with the requirements of relevant EU legislation, is safe and suitable for healthy infants living in Europe. This conclusion does not apply to infant formula (IF).

The available data did not allow EFSA to establish the safety and suitability of follow-on formulae with a similar protein content made from soy protein isolates or protein hydrolysates.
