ANSES completed the work of updating the nutritional references for vitamins and minerals for the adult population, in particular for vitamins and minerals that could not be processed in 2016. The Agency also reassessed all the reference nutritional values for specific populations: infants, children, adolescents, pregnant women, breastfeeding women and the elderly, references that had not been updated since 2001.
These values constitute the new references in vitamins and minerals for the healthy French population. They are available to health professionals. These nutritional references can also be used for public health purposes by health authorities, in particular to estimate the proportion of individuals who do not consume enough (insufficient) or too much (excess) vitamins or minerals or to define benchmarks for food consumption. The nutritional references were established from studies carried out most often in a Western-type food context. Thus, the Agency believes that research is needed to adapt these nutritional references to other contexts and eating habits, especially for French overseas territories.
