The study of a team of Greek and American researchers enabled to assess consumers’ consent to pay for strawberries that would benefit from certification to guarantee fairer working conditions (eg the guarantee of minimum wage, a limited number of hours or sick leave) of agricultural workers. This study is published in the European Review of Agricultural Economics.

They have demonstrated that Greek consumers are prepared to pay € 0.53 more per 500 g of strawberries produced with this type of certification. This kind of certification models could be developed to enhance the value of products from farms protecting workers’ rights.
