The Agence bio reports on organic production in the world and on the organic consumption in France

On March 19, 2021, Agence bio presented the first results of the 18th barometer on the consumption of organic products in France in 2020, during the Covid-19 period. In addition, Agence bio has also published 2 reports on organic production, the first on agricultural production around the world and the second on organic animal production in France.

Agence bio has planned to organize a new webinar “Eating organic for the planet: how will environmental labeling guide consumers’ choice?” this Friday April 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    • In short:
    • A more locavore consumer who discovers and uses short circuits (AMAP = “Association pour le Maintien d’une Agriculture Paysanne” or “Association for the maintenance of peasant agriculture” in english, direct sales from producers).
    • In this context, the number of organic consumers continues to grow (+ 15% of new consumers). About 3/4 of French people consume organic products at least once a month, including 13% every day.

 

    • In short: this international report presents the evolution of organic agriculture in the world from 2000 to 2018.
    • The global area cultivated organically represents in 2018, 71.5 million, or 1.5% of the entire agricultural territory of the 186 countries surveyed by FIBL / IFOAM.
    • Between 2000 and 2018, the number of organic farms in the world increased by 11.2 and the area cultivated organically by 4.6.
    • In 2018, 50% of organically cultivated land is in Oceania (97% of Australia’s organic land is used for grazing) and 22% in Europe,
    • Organic farming represents a very variable share depending on the continent.

    • In 2020, among people who consume meat, 72% say they consume organic meat, 13 points more than in 2015.
